Artist Spotlight: ALMOND

This week we bring you a Spotlight of an up and coming producer, Almond.

Almond is a young producer and DJ from Buffalo, New York who has been tearing up the scene lately. His latest song, a remix of The Chainsmokers’s most recent single “Kanye” in which he collaborated with fellow producer Samme, dropped September 30th on The Music Ninja, and has gotten a ton of love in the days since, reaching #3 on Hype Machine’s overall Popular chart, and getting public support from The Chainsmokers themselves via their official twitter account. Almond played at BeachGlow Music Festival this summer alongside acts like Kap Slap and DVBBS and has played shows in Philly and Buffalo. He is also performing at a number of colleges in the near future. We got the chance to sit down with Almond and talk about his career so far, his vision for where his music is heading, and get to know this up and coming kid who is changing the game:

Tell us a little about yourself:

My name is Almond and I am 19 years old. I started to produce one year ago and have been featured on Your Music Radar, KnackForTracks, FistInTheAir, The Music Ninja, and had a huge premiere on by being apart of Moiez’s Official Remix Album. I didn’t want to be just “another producer” who made the same stuff that everyone else did…and being an unknown producer, thats kind of the easy route to get “famous” nowadays.

Honestly, I don’t care about the “fame” or “glory” right now; I just want
to make great music that people will listen and fuckin’ rave to.

I take music very seriously but I will always be having fun
with it. I mean, I released a bootleg pack with only 90’s mashups/remixes
including theme songs like “Hey Arnold!” and “Full House” and music from Good
Charlotte, Blink 182 and even Marky Mark.

It’s releases like those that set me apart from other upcoming DJs. I am
committed to “changing the game” completely so that I will start from the
bottom and be true to who I am, rather than “get famous quick” and then
decide what I want to do with my music.

How did you get started making music?

I had been DJing for a couple years before I actually downloaded a DAW and created music. Music was my life for a long time and got me out of some deep places, and once my best friend’s father passed away I wanted him to get out of that dark place as well. So, I did what I loved most and started to make music. Ever since then I’ve been learning more and more!

How do you decide on what songs to remix / who to collaborate with?

Usually I just make an instrumental and then see what acappellas go with it, but if there’s a song that I love and the stems are available / no one has really remixed it, then thats the one!

Who are some of your favorite inspirations / artists?

Porter Robinson, Moiez, Boombox Cartel, Maison Cartel, anything with cartel after it, Artie Shaw, Ed Sheeran and London Grammar.

What’s your favorite song of yours so far?

Kanye remix for sure, its so bouncy :)

What has been your most memorable experience in your young music career?!

After BeachGlow Music Festival and having fans tweet at me (who I didn’t know and weren’t my friends haha) saying they loved my music. It was the first time I felt like I had fans, it was amazing.

What direction do you see your music heading in the future?

I honestly have no idea, there are so many genres and sounds I want to experiment with that it’s hard to say I’ll stick with a genre.

If you were to pick any artist to make a collaboration song with, who would it be?

Lost kings. I think they’re very talented and have a great sound. Would love to make an original with them.

Do you have any upcoming shows scheduled?

HALLOWEEN :) :) :) Shh……haven’t announced it yet!

What is one thing you want your listeners to know about you?

Chubbies shorts = life
